Questions We Hear Most

Everything you want to know about working with a residential interior design firm, from the very first conversation through the final reveal.

Working With a Designer

When is the best time to hire an interior designer?

As early as possible. The earlier we are involved, the more we can protect your budget, prevent costly changes mid-project, and ensure every decision builds toward a cohesive result. For renovations and new construction, the ideal time is before you finalize plans with a contractor or builder, so the design intent is established before construction decisions are locked in.

That said, there is no wrong time to reach out. Whether you are still in the dreaming phase, actively planning, or mid-project and feeling stuck, we can step in and bring clarity to wherever you are in the process.

What does an interior designer actually do?

We solve the problems you can feel but may not be able to name. A room that never quite comes together. A renovation that needs direction before a single wall is touched. A home that functions fine but does not feel like yours.

Our work includes space planning, material and finish selection, custom furniture specification, lighting design, procurement, vendor coordination, and project management. We create the documentation that ensures every detail translates from concept to reality, and we stay with the project to make sure it does. You can explore the full scope of what we offer on our Services page.

What is the difference between an interior designer and an interior decorator?

Decorating focuses on the surface layer of a space: furniture arrangement, color, textiles, and accessories. Interior design goes deeper. We work with spatial layouts, construction coordination, material specification, lighting systems, and the technical documentation required to execute a renovation or new build.

Think of it this way: a decorator makes a room look beautiful. A designer makes a home work beautifully, from the infrastructure out. Most of our projects involve some level of construction or renovation, which means we are coordinating with contractors, electricians, and trades throughout the process.

Do I need to know my style before we start?

Not at all. Most clients come to us with a feeling rather than a defined aesthetic. Maybe you know you want your home to feel calm. Or layered. Or modern without being cold. That is more than enough to begin.

Our discovery process is designed to uncover what resonates with you through conversation, visual references, and the way you describe how you want to live. We translate that into a cohesive design direction. You do not need a Pinterest board or a vocabulary for it. You just need to show up.

What should I look for when choosing an interior designer?

Look for professional memberships, a clear process, and trade access. Membership in organizations like ASID holds designers to professional and ethical standards. Affiliation with building industry groups like CBIA signals experience coordinating with contractors and construction teams. Access to trade-only resources means you get materials and furnishings that are not available to the public.

Beyond credentials, look for a documented process. A designer who can walk you through exactly how they work, what to expect at each phase, and how decisions are made is a designer who has done this enough times to build a system around it. You can learn more about our background and approach on our About page.

The Design Process

What does the design process look like from start to finish?

Every project follows a structured path: discovery, concept development, design documentation, procurement, and installation. The specifics vary based on scope, but the framework stays consistent because that consistency is what protects your timeline and your investment.

During discovery, we learn how you live and what your home needs to become. In concept development, we present mood boards, space plans, and material palettes for your review. Once the direction is approved, we produce the detailed selections and documentation that guide every trade and vendor. Procurement follows, and then installation brings it all together. We walk through each stage in detail on our Our Process page.

How long does a typical project take?

It depends on the scope. A single-room redesign with no construction might move from concept to installation in eight to twelve weeks. A full-home renovation with structural changes, custom millwork, and technology integration can span six months to over a year.

The design phase itself is often faster than clients expect. What takes time is lead times on custom furniture, specialty materials, and construction sequencing. We plan for all of that upfront so there are no surprises mid-project. During your initial consultation, we will give you a realistic timeline based on exactly what your project involves.

How involved do I need to be during the process?

As much or as little as you want to be. Some clients love being part of every material selection. Others prefer to see a finished concept and say yes or no. We adapt to your preference.

What we do ask for is your honesty. If something does not feel right, we want to know early. The process works best when you trust us with the details and we trust you with the truth about what you love and what you do not.

Design + Construction

Can you help with renovations and construction, or just design?

We handle the design. For projects that involve construction, we work in close coordination with licensed general contractors who handle permitting, structural work, and all trades. The experience for you is seamless: one conversation, one aligned vision, one process from concept through completion.

This structure exists intentionally. It means you get a dedicated design firm focused entirely on the creative and functional vision of your home, paired with a licensed contractor focused entirely on executing the build. Both are accountable to you, and both are in communication throughout.

How do you work with contractors during a renovation?

We produce detailed design documentation that serves as the contractor’s roadmap: material specifications, finish schedules, fixture locations, lighting layouts, and millwork details. This is not a mood board handed off and hoped for the best. It is construction-ready information.

During the build, we remain actively involved, reviewing installations against the design intent, approving material applications on site, and resolving any questions that arise between the contractor and our specifications. The goal is that nothing gets lost in translation between what was designed and what gets built.

Do I need to hire my own contractor, or do you handle that?

Either way works. We collaborate with licensed general contractors throughout Southwest Florida. If your project requires construction, we can introduce you to a contractor whose capabilities and communication style match the scope of your project.

If you already have a contractor you trust, we are happy to work with them. What matters most is that whoever handles the build is willing to work collaboratively with our design documentation. We will help you evaluate that fit during the planning phase.

Smart Home + Technology

Can you integrate smart home technology into the design?

Yes, and this is one of the things that sets our process apart. We plan technology integration during the design phase, not as an afterthought once construction is underway. That means lighting control, motorized shades, audio systems, and climate automation are designed into the architecture of the space from day one.

The result is technology that disappears into the home rather than competing with the design. No visible speakers fighting the ceiling line. No banks of mismatched switches on a clean wall. No retrofitting after the drywall is closed.

What kind of smart home systems do you work with?

Our smart home integration partner is SOFLA Technologies, a Naples-based integrator specializing in luxury residential systems. Their capabilities include Lutron lighting control, motorized shades and window treatments, immersive whole-home audio, home cinema, video surveillance, climate automation, and unified voice-controlled environments.

SOFLA joins our projects during the design phase, coordinating directly with our team and any contractors involved. They produce low-voltage drawings, plan infrastructure before walls close, and ensure every technology decision aligns with the interior design. Their approach mirrors ours: precision, restraint, and integration that serves the space rather than overwhelming it.

Investment

How much does interior design cost?

Every project is different, and the investment reflects that. A single-room refresh involves a different level of planning, specification, and coordination than a full-home renovation with custom millwork and technology integration.

What we can tell you is that our fee covers the expertise, time, and coordination required to deliver a result that is cohesive, functional, and built to last. Furnishings, materials, and construction costs are separate from our design fee, and we are transparent about how those numbers break down. The best way to understand what your specific project would involve is to start a conversation with us.

What is included in your design fee?

Our design fee covers the creative work that shapes your project: concept development, space planning, material and finish selection, furniture specification, lighting design, and the documentation that brings it all together.

Do you require a minimum project size?

Our smallest engagement is a single-room refresh. Whether you are reimagining one space or planning a full-home renovation, we can talk through what your project would involve. If you are unsure whether it is a fit, reach out. There is no commitment in asking.

Service Areas

Do you only work in Naples?

No. While our studio is based in Naples, we serve clients throughout Southwest Florida, including Bonita Springs, Marco Island, Fort Myers, and Estero. Our service area spans Collier and Lee counties, and we know the trades, suppliers, and building departments across the region.

Can you work on projects outside of Southwest Florida?

For the right project, yes. If you are outside our primary service area but feel we are the right fit for your vision, we are open to a conversation about how that could work. The design process translates well across distance, and we have the systems in place to manage remote coordination. Travel and logistics would be discussed as part of the project scope.

Getting Started

How do I know if we are a good fit?

Our best projects happen with clients who value the process as much as the outcome. People who understand that great design takes planning, trust, and a willingness to let the details be handled by someone who cares about them deeply.

If you want a home that reflects how you actually live, not a showroom that looks untouched, and you are ready to invest in getting it right rather than getting it fast, we are probably a good fit. Take a look at our portfolio to see if the work resonates with you. If it does, that is a strong signal.

What should I have ready before our first conversation?

Nothing formal. If you have inspiration images, floor plans, or a rough sense of budget, those are helpful but not required. The most useful thing you can bring is an honest description of what is not working in your home right now and what you wish it felt like instead.

We will guide the conversation from there. There is no wrong answer, and you do not need to come prepared with a design brief. That is our job.

What happens after I fill out the inquiry form?

We will review your submission and respond within one to two business days to schedule an introductory call. That call is a chance for both of us to learn whether the project is a good fit: we will ask about your home, your goals, and your timeline, and you can ask us anything.

There is no obligation and no pressure. If we are the right team for your project, we will walk you through exactly what the next steps look like. Start here.

Still Have Questions?

The best way to understand how we work is a conversation. No commitment, no pressure. Just an honest discussion about your home and whether we are the right team to help.
